This is Laurel - I am an Artist and a Writer. As a Baby Boomer, I experienced the many changes in mores that shifted the outlook of a large group of people, especially women. I made the transition from full-time mom to a successful businesswoman, balancing the tightrope of life, thinking…of course…that I could do it all. Many things and people influenced me throughout the years, but the biggest event was the seventies Women’s Movement. That pivotal time changed my thinking about “possibilities.” Being a working mother and wife was not at all easy or simple. An epiphany came, after many years of juggling responsibilities, that I wasn’t “superwoman.” What a surprise, what a relief!
Throughout the years, I climbed the proverbial corporate ladder while juggling the roles of businesswoman, wife, mother, and chief cook and bottle washer. And, let’s not forget all the long lasting friendships I made along the way. My husband Marty and I raised two fine sons and our family grew to include their loving wives and four adorable grandchildren. Life has been an intricate and colorful kaleidoscope.
After 42 years of marriage, in early 2009, my world changed drastically with the passing of my much-loved husband. Now, as a “widow,” with no guideposts to show me the way, I had to learn to “be” a single woman once again. What a journey this has been … taking me on an unasked for and unfamiliar path.
